Stage 1. Tuned to your stock car.
A precise ECU calibration for vehicles running original hardware, built around your car and your goals.

What is Stage 1?
Stage 1 is the starting point of performance tuning: a software calibration for a vehicle with no performance hardware changes. Instead of fitting parts, we change how the engine management behaves, so the car is calibrated to the hardware it already has.
Every platform and ECU is different, so what can be adjusted varies. We review your vehicle, ECU and software version first, and agree what is realistic before any work starts.
- Software calibration only
- No supporting hardware required
- Built from your vehicle's own original file
- Checksums corrected when data is changed
What goes into a Stage 1 calibration.
The exact parameters depend on the engine and ECU, but a careful calibration looks at how the whole system behaves, not a single number.
- Start
Your original file comes first
We read the ECU and keep a backup of the original software, so there is always a known starting point to return to.
- Air and fuel
Fuelling and air management
Where the platform allows, fuelling, air control and torque requests are reviewed together so the engine stays within sensible limits.
- Ignition
Ignition and drivability
Timing and throttle behaviour are considered for smooth, predictable response in everyday driving.
- Protection
Limits stay in view
Protective limits and safeties are reviewed rather than ignored. The aim is a calibration the engine can live with.
- Data
Checked with datalogs
Where the vehicle supports it, engine parameters are logged through the diagnostic port so the response can be reviewed after the change.
- Write
Checksums and write
When data is changed, checksums are corrected before the new calibration is written back to the ECU.
Is Stage 1 right for you?
Stage 1 suits cars on original hardware. If you've modified the car, a different stage may fit better.
A good fit if
- Your vehicle has no performance hardware changes
- You want a calibration built around the car as it is
- You drive the car every day and want it to stay that way
- Your ECU is supported, or can be unlocked
Talk to us first if
- You have intake, exhaust or cooling upgrades (that is Stage 2)
- You have made major hardware changes (that is Stage 3)
- The car has known faults or overdue servicing
- You are not sure whether your ECU is supported
From enquiry to flash.
A straightforward process, with a review at the start and the end.
-
01
Share your vehicle
Use the Vehicle Finder, or contact us with your vehicle, engine and anything you know about the ECU.
-
02
Confirm support
We check your vehicle against our reference information, confirm the ECU and software version, and tell you whether an unlock is needed.
-
03
Prepare the vehicle
The car should be serviced and healthy with no active faults. A battery charger or stable power supply is recommended while the ECU is read and written.
-
04
Read and back up
The original software is read and saved before anything changes.
-
05
Calibrate and write
Your calibration is prepared, checksums are corrected and the new software is written back to the ECU.

Review
Where supported, datalogs let us check how the car responds, and we go through the result with you.
Not sure which stage?
Fitted parts decide the stage.
Tell us what is on your car and we'll recommend the right one. If nothing has been changed, Stage 1 is usually where we start.
Good to know.
Do I need to buy any parts for Stage 1?
No. Stage 1 is designed for vehicles on their original hardware. If you have modifications, tell us and we'll advise whether Stage 2 or Stage 3 is a better fit.
Does my ECU need unlocking first?
Some modern ECUs have security that must be unlocked before they can be read or written. Others can be accessed directly through the OBD port. We confirm which applies to your vehicle during the review.
Will you keep my original software?
Yes. We read and keep a copy of the original software before changing anything. It is also what makes our ECU Back to Stock service possible later, where a suitable original file is available.
What results can I expect?
Results depend on the vehicle, engine, fuel and ECU, so we don't quote figures before we've reviewed your car. We'll explain what is realistic for your setup.
Is a tune safe for my engine?
A Stage 1 calibration is designed around the original hardware and keeps protective limits in view. No tune is risk-free, and the condition and servicing of the vehicle matter, which is why we ask about both.
Can I go back to stock afterwards?
In most cases, yes. Availability depends on the vehicle and on having the right original file, which we confirm before you commit.
